The clubs played to a scoreless draw in the first leg at Casablanca’s Stade Mohamed V. Mamelodi Sundowns’ success in obtaining a draw was especially amazing given that they played with ten men for more than half of the match and finished with only nine players.

Neo Maema was shown a straight red card late in the first half, while substitute Marcelo Allende was sent off in injury time at the end of the game. Both dismissals were confirmed by VAR as valid judgements.

Meanwhile, while the goalless draw provides a nice conclusion for Mamelodi Sundowns, they must be wary of the away goals rule, which only helps Wydad Casablanca. Wydad would go to the final if the score was tied.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, on the other hand, maintains confident in his team’s capacity to win on home grounds. He cites the supporters’ backing, the players’ experience, and their discipline and tactical adaptation under difficult conditions as grounds for his optimism.

Despite having a numerical advantage, Wydad Casablanca will be disappointed with their inability to grab control of the tie in the first leg. They failed to produce meaningful scoring chances against goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, and they were up against a well-organized and technically skilled Mamelodi Sundowns team.
