How Swallows boss came to trust Nyatama: David Mogashoa, the chairman of Swallows FC, has discussed why he gave Musa Nyatama control of the Dube Birds’ dugout.
At the start of the season, Nyatama unexpectedly transitioned into a coach, helping Dylan Kerr, who was ultimately fired in September after a subpar start.
After then, the former midfielder served as the team’s interim leader until Kerr was replaced by Ernst Middendorp.The German tactician, though, also quit after resigning when SV Meppen offered him a position.
Since then, Nyatama has been guiding the Soweto group.He helped them finish the year with four straight victories, which helped them avoid relegation.
Mogshoa said he noticed Nyatama’s leadership abilities when the 35-year-old was still playing, in an exclusive interview with FARPost.
He believes Nyatama’s leadership in the locker room was a key factor in their success in the 2022–23 PSL Promotional Playoffs. In his opinion, the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder demonstrated his abilities anytime he served as interim coach for Swallows.
A few weeks ago, Mogashoa declared that the 35-year-old had been named as the team’s permanent head coach.

“That trust actually comes from last season when he was still playing,” claimed Mogashwa.
“On the field, he demonstrated his leadership abilities. And once the playoffs began, he also shown strong leadership qualities.
He was leading players out of the locker room, which is why we won the playoffs.He also served as Dylan Kerr’s assistant coach, which I believe was beneficial to him.Because when coach Dylan Kerr stepped down, he took over and things were looking up.Coach Ernst Middendorp, who worked with him, was brought in.He was the ideal candidate to take over when coach Middendorp stepped down.

While everything was going on, Morgan Mammila, who was helping Nyatama, quit the team and returned to Chippa United as the head coach.
The assistant coach will be chosen by Swallows prior to the 2023–24 season.
