Chelsea have been looking for replacements for Fofana and Badiashile, who both suffered long-term injuries at the start of the season, leading Chelsea to look for replacements. Guehi, who is valued £75 million, is one of those replacements.
According to journalist Nathan Gissing, Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile is due to return from injury sooner than expected.
He took to Twitter to state that the club are targeting him to return and be available for selection before the third game of the season, set for late next month.
While many players have already been given the opportunity to prove themselves to new manager Mauricio Pochettino in the United States, Badiashile has been one of those not fortunate enough to be able to do so yet.
He picked up an injury late last season in a training session, which can be seen in a video published by the club of one of Frank Lampard’s sessions.
Not only did the problem rule him out of the rest of the last campaign, but has severely limited his preparation for the upcoming campaign.
Badiashile ahead of schedule
This has currently cleared a path for Levi Colwill to state his claim for a regular first team place next season, with that opportunity not at one stage looking so clear.
This obstructed path reportedly saw him remain open to making a move back to Brighton after a successful loan spell with the club last season.
However, their bids up till now have been unsuccessful, and they have seemed to move on to other targets to try and sure up their defence ahead of next season.
He will be in for competition soon though, with Gissing claiming that he will be back before the Luton game.
He said:
“Badiashile’s recovery from his hamstring injury is going faster than expected. He is currently ahead of schedule & is expected to return to individual training in the next week.
“Chelsea have set a target for the defender to be available for the third game of the season.”
