The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has stated that Mamelodi Sundowns will now meet Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium rather than Loftus Versfeld, as was previously announced. The match, which had been set for August 9th, had to be rescheduled owing to continuing pitch renovations at Loftus Versfeld.
PSL Fixtures: According to reports, head coach Rulani Mokwena revealed on Radio2000 that the pitch renewal work is taking longer than expected, presenting a “short-term dilemma” for the club. As a result, the first game impacted by the work is their home game versus the Chiefs on Wednesday next week.
Sundowns had attempted to host some of their home games at FNB Stadium, but contractual agreements with Stadium Management SA and Amakhosi prevented them from doing so. Other venues, such as New Peter Mokhaba Stadium and Mbombela Stadium, were ruled out because Sundowns wanted to prioritize staying close to their fans.
“Sundowns is a team from Pretoria, which respects and appreciates our fans, and we value their presence at the games,” Mokwena said on Radio2000. “So we will try to prioritize playing our home games at Lucas Moripe.”
