On Sunday, Panama and Nicaragua will play each other in an international friendly for the first time since March.
Both countries’ most recent appearances were in the CONCACAF Nations League, and they are currently preparing for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which begins later this month.
Predictions for the game
Panama will return to play in Sunday’s friendly after a strong finish to their outstanding CONCACAF Nations League campaign in March, when Los Canaleros topped Group B of League A after going unbeaten in four games.
Following a seven-point haul in the first three games of 2022, they returned for the final meeting with Costa Rica on the back of a six-match winless streak, including four straight draws in friendlies against Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Cameroon, and Guatemala, before falling to World Cup winners Argentina 2-0, with Thiago Almada and Lionel Messi scoring.
They would return to winning ways to clinch first place, though, with a 1-0 triumph away against Costa Rica, with Jose Fajardo scoring the only goal 13 minutes from time before being sent off in the closing embers.
As a result, Thomas Christiansen’s team ended first with an unblemished record, having not surrendered a single goal in four games against Costa Rica.
