Former South African National football team midfielder Thulani Serero has a contract in the UAE with Al Jazira club running until the end of this month (June).
The club has not engaged in any contract talks yet, which means Serero could become a free agent in the next few weeks and will be available for other interested clubs to pounch.
According to a source, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are monitoring his contract situation in the UAE and waiting for him to become a free agent in the coming weeks.
However, Serero earns a salary in the region of $25 000 a month and the source believes that the PSL giants interested in his services will not be able to match his salary.
Despite the reported interest from Chiefs and Sundowns, the source also does not believe that Serero is ready to move back home to South Africa.
The source close to Serero revealed that the former Bafana Bafana midfielder might opt to go for a European or Asian move after his spell with Al Jazira comes to an end.
Serero has been out of South Africa for more than a decade as he left for Ajax Amsterdam in 2011 from Ajax Cape Town.
The 33-year-old has been with Al Jazira from 2019 and could part ways with them after a four-year spell. Seeing that the source strongly believes he will be choosing a European or Asian move rather than moving back to South Africa, Chiefs and Sundowns might be out of the race for his signature should there be a pursuit for him.
Reasons why Kaizer Chiefs received excellent news about a striker
But, there’s always the right price to lure a player to a club. So, it’s not impossible for him to complete a move back to the PSL after more than a decade abroad.
