Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo, who has one year left on his contract, is apparently on the transfer list. The 29-year-old’s contract, which expires at the end of the 2023/24 season, has one year left on it. The KwaZulu-Natal-born defender has only played 11 games, seven of which he started, plus one in the MTN8 and two in the Nedbank Cup. He lost his position first to Zitha Kwinika before resuming the form of Siyabonga Ngezana, who shared the center back position with Edmilson Dove in most games in the second half of 2022/23.

However, this paper has gathered that the board of directors has chosen to treat him as inactive after he accepted coach Arthur Zwane’s requests. “Njabulo Ngcobo has been moved to the leadership list,” the insider stated.

Mapholoba, as Ngcobo is known, joined Amakhosi from Swallows at the start of the 2021/22 season after being voted the DStv Premiership Defender of the Season, guiding the Soweto giants to a top-six finish in their maiden season back in the top flight under then-trainer Brandon Truter.

But he failed to resurrect the Swallows in 2021/22, first under Staurt Baxter and then under Zwane.

He had a disagreement with the latter because he was still the manager in command when he shook hands after the first change against the Golden Arrows, which enraged goal coach Lee Baxter and caused the other players to stop them from competing.

Ngcobo later apologized to Zwane and the entire team for his conduct, but the signings of Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe appear to have solved the ‘Roadblock’ issue at the club, which was previously defended by Siyabonga Ngezana, Dove Edmilson, and Zitha Kwinika.

“Firing Arthur Zwane will not solve Kaizer Chiefs’ problems,” says a former player

Austin Dube will also miss this season due to restricted playing time, while Amakhosi are preparing Aden McCarthy and Thabo Mokoena for the season.
