‘Good news,’ says journalist, “a Chelsea player has changed his mind about staying because he adores Graham Potter.”
According to Ben Jacobs, Jorginho is now eager to stay at Chelsea after considering leaving previously.
Jorginho has been the subject of intense transfer speculation for quite some time.
His contract expires in June, and many speculate that he will become a free agent.
Conversations about the Italian’s future date back to the summer window and beyond.
Jorginho is considering a move to Chelsea.
Jorginho is 30 years old and arguably past his prime, so it would not surprise many if Chelsea decided not to renew his contract.
It would save the club money and allow another, younger midfielder to take his place in Graham Potter’s squad.
However, Jacobs has stated that the Italy international may be leaning toward a new contract rather than away from one.
“With Jorginho, the process is more formative. Contract negotiations have yet to begin in any significant or formal way. “I fully expect Chelsea to offer him a competitive new contract; it’s just a matter of whether he’ll sign it,” he said.
“The good news is that Jorginho now has a different mindset than Jorginho did at the start of the season.
“He feels still integral and wanted and he likes the man management of Potter and he believes Chelsea are going to take great strides forward.
“As a result, he sees the project more clearly than most, and he believes the club sees him as a member of it.”
Potter is under siege
Following a successful honeymoon period, Potter’s project is still in its early stages.
After going unbeaten in his first nine games in charge, the new Chelsea manager has won just one of the last five.
If the team is to get anything out of a season that has so much promise, they will need to put in a lot of effort.
The Blues return to Premier League action on December 27th against Bournemouth.
Fail Jorginho fails to win, he may want to reconsider his newfound desire to stay in South West London.
