A star player who would’ve gone right into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting eleven is “too expensive” for Chelsea, and an academy product may be given a chance to shine instead.
The Blues have added forwards Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson to their roster. Further back, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo remains the club’s first priority in midfield, while Fabrizio Romano has stated that Chelsea will look for a new centre-back after Wesley Fofana suffered a major knee injury that necessitated surgery.
However, with the departure of Edouard Mendy to Al Ahli, Chelsea now lacks an established and top-tier player capable of putting major pressure on and competing with Kepa Arrizalabaga.
Andre Onana was reportedly on Chelsea’s radar, with the Mirror reporting that Pochettino was displeased with both Kepa and Mendy.
Chelsea never made a bid for Onana, despite the fact that Mendy was released.
Instead, an audacious move for AC Milan’s and France’s No. 1 player, Mike Maignan, has been proposed.
However, according to Chelsea analyst Nathan Gissing, the 28-year-old is “too expensive” for the Blues at the moment.

“They’re just being cautious with prices this year because, as we learned in June, Chelsea needed to sell before they could pursue deals.”
