The 31-year-old has decided not to participate in another qualification cycle ahead of the 2024 European Championships and, later, the 2026 World Cup. Hazard has retired from international duty after 14 years, just days after Belgium was eliminated in the group stage in Qatar.
‘Thank you for your unparalleled support,’ Hazard said in a statement. Thank you for all of the happy times we’ve had since 2008.
‘Today, I made the decision to end my international career. The next generation has arrived. I’m going to miss you terribly.’
Eden Hazard is representing Belgium at the World Cup in Qatar.
Hazard will feel justified in calling it quits after Belgium’s humiliating group stage exit. He will now concentrate on getting his club career back on track after a difficult few years, particularly since leaving Chelsea to join Real Madrid.
