Chelsea are looking for a new goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to enhance his squad. Chelsea can assemble a dream team by completing three major transactions in addition to the signing of Nkunku.

Chelsea only needs to recruit three more players to their starting lineup for next season, in addition to Christopher Nkunku. The Blues have officially announced the arrival of the 25-year-old attacker from RB Leipzig.

Nkunku, who signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, said the official Chelsea:

“I am thrilled to be joining Chelsea. A lot of work was put in to bring me to the club, and I’m excited to meet my new coach and teammates, as well as show the Chelsea fans what I can accomplish on the field.

“After playing in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, I now want to play in the Premier League, one of the world’s strongest leagues.” I’m looking forward to this challenge and will be pleased to wear the Chelsea shirt.”

Despite missing two months of the season, the France international scored 16 goals to share the Bundesliga golden boot with Niclas Fullkrug. Unlike Fullkrug, who is a traditional talisman, Nkunku has excelled in a variety of places across the frontline, providing the Blues with a plethora of interesting possibilities.

So, with that in mind, it has looked at how Chelsea might line up next season if Moises Caicedo, Lautaro Martinez, and Diogo Costa join the Frenchman at Cobham.

Formation

Pochettino’s attacking style has earned him tenures at Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain. He’s traditionally chosen a 4-2-3-1 – which looks like a 4-3-3 when attacking and a 4-4-2 while defending – over the years.

Goalkeeper

Kepa Arrizbalaga and Edouard Mendy have both underperformed recently, so a new face between the sticks is definitely required. After missing out on Andre Onana and Mike Maignan, who is unlikely to leave AC Milan, Diogo Costa has surfaced as a possible replacement – however he might cost as much as £64 million!

Attack

In an ideal scenario, Pochettino would be able to entice Martinez away from Inter Milan. Nicolas Jackson, who is set to join the west Londoners, had a fantastic season with Villarreal, scoring ten goals in his final 12 La Liga outings.

While he has been impressive in front of goal, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his form in the Premier League. The same can be said for Martinez, who has a far greater European background to his name.

Midfield

If Chelsea can sign Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez will be able to step into the deep-lying eight role for the first time. The South American duo can play a double pivot and sit behind Nkunku, who will most likely be allowed to roam the final third and support the lone striker.

In terms of wingers, Mudryk is anticipated to be used as an outlet on the left, similar to how Son Heung-min was under Pochettino, while Noni Madueke operates on the right. Raheem Sterling has the potential to establish a spot in the starting lineup for years to come if he can regain the form he showed at Manchester City, but Madueke finished the season strongly.

Defence

Normally, Reece James would be partnered at full-back by Ben Chilwell. However, if Mykhailo Mudryk is given the freedom of the left side, Levi Colwill would provide excellent balance behind him.

At Arsenal, Ben White provides excellent insurance for Bukayo Saka, who is no longer saddled with as much defensive responsibility. Colwill might take on a similar role, but on the left, while James takes on the ‘Zinchenko role’ on the right.

It’s hard to ignore Ben Chilwell, or even Lewis Hall or Ian Maatsen, but the England international isn’t as efficient as a full-back as he is as a winger. Regardless, he’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet next season.

Lineup

Moises Caicedo, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke; Lautaro Martinez, Diogo Costa; Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Reece James (C); Enzo Fernandez.
