Chelsea have negotiated a fee of £38.6 million with French Ligue 1 club Monaco for the services of French center-back Axel Disasi.
Axel Disasi, 25, signed a two-year contract with the French Ligue 1 club. Due to his outstanding performance last season, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Chelsea all shown interest in him.
Monaco accepted Chelsea’s bid after reaching an agreement with Championship side Southampton for Ghanian defender Mohammed Salisu as Disasi’s replacement.
When French center-back Wesley Fofana tore his ACL earlier this month, Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino pushed the team to hunt for another defender.
Pochettino voiced faith in Fofana, who underwent knee surgery last season, during Chelsea’s preseason tour of the United States. However, the team was forced to make a substitution for the Frenchman.
Pochettino’s current center-back alternatives include Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile, who is still rehabilitating from a hamstring injury sustained last season.
Chelsea will have another option for a right-sided center-back in Disasi. He came to Monaco in 2020 from Reims, where he had lived for four years, and played three times for France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
