However, neither has seen any pre-season action, so others are likely to be preferred. Alexis MacAllister began as the deepest midfielder against Darmstadt on Monday, while Curtis Jones is another option.
Jürgen Klopp said earlier in the week that he could try to change up the shape for this game, fearful of the attacking threat that Mauricio Pochettino can summon.
Chelsea’s summer addition Christopher Nkunku is due to miss a few weeks with a knee injury, while Wesley Fofana and Armando Broja are long-term absentees.
Trevoh Chalobah and Benoît Badiashile are both making progress but are unlikely to play in this game due to absences. Noni Madueke was out for most of preseason but has returned.
Whatever happens in Caicedo, with both sides without midfielders and being more attack-oriented, this game should be filled with goals. It’s set to be a first-day smash.
