Chelsea are nearing a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and expect him to be registered in time for their Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Seagulls have rejected several Premier League bids for the Ecuadorian international, citing the Blues’ £100 million asking price.

Brighton’s high valuation is attributed to Chelsea’s £106.8 million signing of Enzo Fernandez in January, as well as Declan Rice’s £105 million move to Arsenal this summer.

Caicedo, unlike Fernandez, has Premier League experience, having established himself as one of the top defensive midfielders in the league.

“Why I chose Reece James as Chelsea’s new captain,” says Pochettino.

He’d be a great addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, which is in need of midfielders.

Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are the Blues’ only experienced options at that position.
